The Year That Was pt.2

On to the second part of our department's look at the year that is passing - the glamourous night:

Malay Cultural Night a.k.a Malam Kebudayaan Melayu a.k.a MKM

Held on the 14th of August, the MKM opened to a fanfare of VIPs that came, including Ybhg Tan Sri Prof Emeritus Dr. Khoo Kay Kim, Datin Lily, Dr. Chia, Mr. Ong, Dr. Tan and Pn. Kamariah; the dinner was successfully done by the pre university students, of both 2008 intake and 2009 intake.

With the theme of 1 Malaysia, in lieu with the prime minister's motto, performances for that night included a silat performance, a few traditional dances, and a few choir performances (by the students of CPUS themselves!!! ) and a special performance by Malaysia's own Zainal Abidin - yes, he came for the dinner :)

Er...Kak Wati, did you see Zainal's grimace there? :p

A 2 hours dinner that brought out the best of the students in many ways, the participants of MKM truly enjoyed themselves that night. Hopefully 2010's MKM (in a new auditorium, I hear :p) would be as good as this, if not better!!!

1Malaysia to the KDU staffs as well :)

How these ladies can take time to pose while the time flies behind is a mystery...

The ladies of MKM... where did that guy come from?!?!!

In case you don't know - from left: Miss Ong, Dr. Tan, Miss Hannah, Miss Sathya, Miss Jo

"Yes, Miss Sathya. I won't do it again.."

P/S: Couldn't have done it without you people, students of CPUS!!! :)

When all is said & done

The year that was

2009.
What can we say about it? Lots of activitiese were done, that's for sure!!

There were 3 MAIN CPUS ACTIVITIES that was done in this year. This count, of course isn't too accurate. I can't really say that I'd remember what other smaller, yet fun activities that were done by the Pre-U students throughout this year.

Anyways... Back to the topic. 3 main things were done by CPUS - both students and teachers participated in it - within the span of 11 months (The students went for their academic break in December).

They were:
1) 'Love = Tangent 90 degrees' Play
2) Malam Kebudayaan Melayu or MKM (Malay Cultural Night)
3) Pre - U Charity day

The play known as Love = Tangent 90 degrees was shown to many students of the college and some of the other department's lecturers (even the college's CEO)on the 26th of Febrary 2009 to much applause and well accepted criticism.
Written and produced by our (jeng jeng jeng)own Miss Hema of Academic English/English Literature subject, the play basically revolves around 2 characters and how love is defined in each of them. The play was divided into 2 parts, each depicting the character's definition. A good and funny play, yet resounding as it mirrors what the audience think about love themselves.

Oh miss Hema!!!

Below are some of the behind the scenes pictures :)

O O... Where's Mr Oo?

I can explain this.... Actually, I can't.

But of course, enough of the behind the scenes and so forth. Where are the 'real' ones?

GO!!!

Sure, the play was the main activity/play of CPUS that year. But it didn't mean that we made only one play :P
There were a few more, all done in Academic English. The plays included Romeo and Juliet, Sweeney Todd,
Merchant of Venice and Just My Lady. These plays were done on a smaller scale though.
Well, with that, today's post will end. The next post will be on the other 2 main activites - MKM and Charity, so stay 'tuned'!! :)

CPUS

The Centre of Pre-University Studies, KDU COllege is also known as CPUS in short.

Hello!!! And welcome to CPUS' blogsite, a place where all (well, almost all :p) activities of the college's pre university department are showcased here.

our blue-sy department

CPUS is the first pre-university school/department in Malaysia to adopt the revolutionary Holistic & Smart-Andragogy teaching and learning approach.NOW, YOU WOULD WONDER, what is that Holistic & all the whatever thingie?

Andragogy- is the teaching of adults- distinguished from pedagogy, which is the teaching of children. All other things - communication courses, vocational training, skills training, workplace training, professional development training, self-paced personal development, informal learning, and all presentations that have the intent of teaching anything really-is considered Andragogy.

The basis of Holistic Learning (as it is the aim of CPUS's lecturer to give their students) is that the 'individual personality consists of many elements ... specifically ... the intellect, emotions, the body impulse (or desire), intuition and imagination (Laird, D. 1985 Approaches to training and development Addison-Wesley, Reading, Mass., p.121) that all require activation if learning is to be more effective.
It means that holistic learning basically covers not only the memory nor mind, but also cooperative (between students), emotional literacy, knowledge of the whole system of a subject, multiple intelligences, and most of all the individual's learning style - to make the ordinary learning meaningful.

So... Back to the concept - Holistic & Smart-Andragogy teaching and learning approach.
WE are proud to say that CPUS of KDU started and improved the way of giving the students a wholesome education, not only aiming to help them do well in their academics, but to help them develope into the individuals that they can be.

With that in mind, CPUS of KDU College have held a strong student results in the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Foundation Year and the Cambridge A-Level programme. Our students have obtained admission into to top universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, London, New South Wales, Melbourne, Tasmania and Sydney University.

Of course, let's not talk about all that, as we know that these information can also be found on our KDU website .
Now, since it's a blog site, we'll try to make it 'sound' and 'feel' like a blog site.
This means that the writing will basically be less formal than it would be.
Also, we plan to blog to you, our readers, what's hot and what's Been Hot (we do not have the What's Not).
But in order to do that, you'll have to tune in to the next post here.
DO NOT FRET.
It'll be before the upcoming 2010 of course - we must close this year with all the super activities that have happened throughout 2009!!!
Till then!! ADIOS!!! :)
