O.M.G. - a Shakespearean Interpretation

Shakespearean literature is a universal classic, no doubt about it. His poems and plays especially, his plays; have been used throughout the ages till today, in academics, socialites and others as well. His plays were either mirrored or adapted in many ways in modern fiction, be it written/graphic literature (Neil Gaiman's The Sandman)to modern songs/movies (Baz Luhrmann's 1996's Romeo and Juliet).
Now, why are we talking about Shakespeare? Well...

The play is given the title of O.M.G; an acronym for Oh My Girl. It is a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's comedic play The taming of the Shrew. It is a musical romantic comedy on how love is not only sowed in a singular way and a sole intention, and how sometimes, true love and bloom with persistent patience on the stage of life.
Kristiana Padua is only well known for 2 things - her acid tongue and notorious reputation as the Shrew of Italy. Will this reputation however, ruin her chances of finding love in an arranged marriage with the newcomer in town, Paolo? Who will be the first to give in to love - the girl or the boy?
The purpose of this play is to raise funds for the Children Cancer Fund at University of Malaya's Medical Centre (UMMC/PPUM), where there is a need of medication, equipment and other supplies for the patients there. This play is aimed to assist the pediatric oncology patients, who are all between 4 months and 18 years old.
The target of our charity play is to raise a minimum of RM50,000 for the fund.
The charity play will be held on the 26th and 29th of January 2011. Both plays will be held at the newly renovated auditorium of KDU UC main campus, at Damansara Jaya. The preview will be opened to public at the price of RM15, with the play starting at 2pm.
The second play on the 29th is a part of a black tie dinner event, starting at 8pm to 10pm. Seats for the dinner and play are priced at RM100 & RM200 respectively.
More announcements in regards to this play are on the way in the near future.
Make your contributions to the fund by coming to the play!!! :)

Santa is coming to town...

The school would want to wish all those celebrating X'mas a great big merry christmas! Don your santa suits if you want to and hang all the socks and mistletoe around the house!! :)

Announcements, Watery Businesses and Sports

3 things happened in the College within the month of November. Well, 2 things happened to be exact. The other is happening.

Firstly, Our college, KDU College has changed its name and status. We are now KDU UNIVERSITY COLLEGE!!! :)

The official launching was held on the 4th of November, a Thursday amidst the fanfare. Started at 10.30am, the launching which included a luncheon for all the audience included many performances by the few departments of the college. Our department, CPUS also performed, towards the end of the launching much to the delight of everyone.
2 performances were done. One was a modern dance by the students while the other performance; a hand mime performance was the closing performance of the launch.

A link to the video is inserted in the word above. The video was taken by another student who was at the launching :)

IT WAS FANTASTIC!!

Second:

As we all know, there were some cases of floods in the Northern Peninsula recently and the people there obviously are more than helpless in these situations, as floods can damage properties as well as lives.
It was a proud moment to say that a student of our Pre-U department, namely Sasha Yeoh Ee Ping organized a flood relief and clean up campaign to the affected areas. Not only did she organized it, she even went as afar as to personally promote the campaign and directly help the people in Perlis!
In fact, her appeal for the campaign was aired on air on the HITZ.FM radio station on the 12th of November, with the morning crews themselves. It (her appeal) was also published in the Star Online website on the November 10th, 2 days before the radio programme.
A job well done, Sasha!!!

Last but not least, KDU University College is ending their Sports Carnival this Saturday on the 20th of November, at 8am till 1pm. The finale would include track and field matches, marching and cheerleading as well as other telematches. Our department, the Yellow house is currently trailing the leaders Blue House by a mere 8 points!!!! Hopefully we can do well in the finale!!!
So, for those who wants to support, do so this Saturday morning at the Kelana Jaya Stadium. See you there!!! :)

P/S: thank you to KDU UC for sharing the modern dance video :)

MACPU-MQA

The past Saturday and Sunday was MAPCU-MQA Eduation Fair 2010, held in MidValley exhibition centre. This education fair was also an annual education fair held after the STAR education fair, with the intention of helping those students who couldn't make it for the STAR that time and for those who would like to visit such college/university booths again to make up their mind on where to study.

The fair was held on both days as mentioned, from 12pm till 6pm. there were quite a number of people enquiring into Pre university studies from KDU too as usual :)

Mr. Stevens and Miss Tee Seok Chin, the accounting lecturer

QUESTION: Who is the lecturer above?

Miss Hema (English) and Miss Elsie (Economics)

Miss Sathya at work: counselling

All That Glitters...

Well, 2 main things happened within the span of 1 1/2 weeks this month, both having a "glitter" theme to it (somehow).

The first was a "STAR"RY affair at KLCC on the 9th and 10th of January - the STAR Education Fair.
KDU College were one of the many colleges and universities that had a booth at the fair, with CPUS being at the "front"line of the booth.
KDU had CPUS at the front this time while the other departments were located specifically at the side. Not only marketing staffs and student helpers were ther ti help during that 2 days, even us lecturers were needed to help with counseling at the booth too!
And boy, was there many people at the fair!! So much I didn't have time to snap some pictures to show it here (too busy helping with the counseling as well).

Miss Hema counseling :p

The second "starry" affair was the UNSW Graduation Day that was held about a week later, on Friday the 15th. Held at LHE room , the joyous occasion was celebrated along with the parents, relatives, friends and the lecturer of the students themselves. These students were from the UNSW Foundation Year programme of the year 2009 intake.

Ooi Jia Ying and her mother/lecturer Miss Loh Chooi Lay

For 2009, the best overall student for went to none other than Ooi Jia Ying, who scored an 8.7 in her grades. Well Done Miss Ooi!! :)

For your information, ladies and gents, Miss Ooi is now planning to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine as she wants to be a Dr. Doolittle :p - best of luck there!
Others who graduated include Asheela Ganapathy, Fong Yan Lok, Leong Chee Seim, Low Yuen Yee, Md Firdaus bin Md Yusop, Aryati Munirah binti Mohd Ghazi, Chew May Jin, Shamine binti Sanus, Ngu Wee Lee, Siow Li Khim, Wong Shu Qi and Wong Yung Hui.
